Methodology

This page explains exactly how the directory is built, so you know which numbers are solid and which ones are our best estimate.

What counts as an AI app

The main list holds products people use — chat assistants, coding tools, writing and image generators, search, support bots, analytics tools and so on. A product qualifies when AI does the core work, not when it's a side feature bolted onto something else.

That's why chip makers, robot builders and cloud training platforms are kept on separate pages, and why small side features from large companies (a translator here, an assistant there) are left out while their flagship AI products stay in.

App versus company

The product and the company are always shown separately: ChatGPT is the app, OpenAI is the company; Gemini is the app, Google DeepMind is the company. When a product carries its parent's name — Notion AI, Adobe Firefly, Meta AI — it stays a single entry.

Categories

Raw category names are folded into a smaller set of readable groups (Search, Writing, Coding, Video, Audio, Images & Design, AI Models, Chat & Assistants, Automation, Infrastructure, and so on). Both the filter and the badge on each row use the same group name, so a row never lands in one group while filtering shows it in another.

Valuation estimates

The value column is our own estimate in US dollars, not an official figure. Where a company is public, we start from market capitalisation. Where it's private, we start from the most recent reported funding round or a reported valuation, and fall back to a judgement call based on scale, users and comparables.

Private-company numbers in this market are frequently months out of date, and some entries are educated guesses. Treat them as order-of-magnitude indicators, not as investment data. Where we have nothing to work from, the row reads "Private / n/a".

The change and trend figures

The 24h and 7d columns and the small trend charts are illustrative placeholders. They show what a live feed would look like in this layout; they are not market data and should not be read as such.

Stock-market listings

The Stock Market column comes from a curated registry of parent companies, their exchanges and tickers, built from company filings and press releases and linked to its source. If a company isn't in that registry — or we couldn't confirm it — the column reads "Not verified" rather than guessing a ticker.

Updates and corrections

New entries arrive through Get listed requests and our own reading of announcements. Every addition is checked by hand against public sources first. If you spot a wrong company, category or number, tell us through the Support page and we'll fix it.
